Northwest Territories

The province lauded for aurora (northern lights), lakes and forests, Northwest territories is a dreamland for outdoorsy and adventurous people. Brimming with natural resources, Northwest territories offer opportunities for various profitable ventures. Many foreign workers and entrepreneurs find ways to establish new businesses in the remote northern region.

The NTNP or The Northwest Territories Nominee Program helps foreign workers to find opportunities through different streams of employment to become permanent residents of Canada. The program helps bring people from different skilled levels through employer focused immigration streams.

There are majorly three categories under which the immigration streams are divided:

  1. Express Entry
  2. Employer Driven
  3. Business Driven

Northwest Territories Express Entry Program

Through this category skilled workers and candidates in the federal Express Entry pool can take part in an accelerated permanent residence application. They require a mandatory job offer from an employer in the Northwest Territories to be eligible. In addition to specific requirements, the program expects the candidate to

  • Currently serving a full time position or an offer letter
  • Meet the skill level requirements, certification or licensing specified for the job
  • Be able to communicate effectively in either French or English

Employer Driven Category

Employer Driven streams in the Northwest Territories are designed for foreign nationals with experience in specific occupations. These fall into NOC Skill Level 0, A, B, C, or D and a full-time job offer from an eligible employer.

With this an eligible candidate can apply through two main streams:

  • Critical Impact Worker
  • Skilled Worker

Business Driven Category

Entrepreneurs with business experience and investment capital who wish to purchase or start a business in the Northwest Territories can benefit from the Business Driven category. There are prerequisites for applying to this program, some of which include:

  • Investment of $300,000 equity
  • A personal net worth of minimum $500,000
  • The owner owns at least 33.3% of the business
  • A faith deposit $75,000 to be held in trust
